Narbonne Girls Roll Past Chatsworth to Win City Title
Another trophy for the Harbor City Narbonne girls’ basketball team, one of many collected the last few years and perhaps not the final one this season.
The latest piece of hardware, the City Championship trophy, officially became the Gauchos’ property after they defeated Chatsworth, 64-39, Saturday at the Forum for their third consecutive City title.
The Gauchos started slowly but cranked up their defense early in the second quarter, turning an 11-10 edge into a rout with a 14-0 run fueled by several fast breaks.
Narbonne (25-3), which beat its three previous playoff opponents by a combined 230-110 score, was never threatened.
“Once we adjusted to the surroundings and got our breathing techniques under control, we put them away,†said Connecticut-bound forward Willnett Crockett, who scored nine points.
The Gauchos have another goal to attain, their second consecutive state Division I championship.
Britney Hamilton and Summer Johnson each had nine points for Chatsworth (22-8).
