Renes Dasher’s victory Saturday in the $16,600 Sophomore Claiming Stakes was special to trainer Angela Aquino.

The 3-year-old gelding raced in the name of Oscar Andrade Jr., Aquino’s 9-month-old nephew, and the win was worth $9,130 toward his college fund. Oscar is the son of former jockey Oscar Andrade Sr., who was paralyzed in a riding accident last year, and Aquino’s sister Elana.

Ridden by Eddie Garcia, Renes Dasher, the 5-1 third choice in the field of $5,000 California-breds, won by a neck over 26-1 shot Dreamer Beamer.
