India’s army chief said there has been a dramatic drop in the number of cross-border incursions by Pakistan-based guerrillas into the Indian-controlled part of Kashmir.
The positive assessment by Gen. Sunderajan Padmanabhan was the strongest of its kind since Pakistan’s president, Gen. Pervez Musharraf, promised last month to halt the incursions.
“Infiltration has gone down significantly,” Padmanabhan said.
Halting such incursions is a key demand of India to defuse tensions along the border.
