Celera to Cut Staff 16% as It Changes Focus
Applera Corp.’s Celera Genomics Group will cut 16% of its staff and reorganize as the company, best known for helping map the human genetic code, shifts to drug development. The company will have related costs of $2.8 million for the fiscal fourth quarter ending June 30.
Celera said it would eliminate 132 jobs, mostly in DNA sequencing and database areas, with about 700 employees remaining.
Shares of the Rockville, Md.-based company fell $1.07 to $12.07 on the NYSE.
