U.S. Agrees to Sell Missiles to Switzerland

The U.S. Defense Department said it has approved the sale to Switzerland of 222 Sidewinder air-to-air missiles in a deal worth as much as $104 million.
“It is vital to the U.S. national interest to assist the Swiss in developing and maintaining a strong and ready self-defense capability which will contribute to an acceptable military balance in the area,” the Defense Security Cooperation Agency said in a statement.
The Sidewinder is a heat-seeking, short-range missile carried by fighter aircraft.
