College Students Sought to Tutor in Schools
Moorpark College is seeking participants for a literacy program that will place 25 college students in east county elementary schools as reading and writing tutors.
Meetings on AmeriCorps’ Teacher Education at Moorpark program will be held at Moorpark College from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Thursday and 6 to 7:30 p.m. Aug. 7. AmeriCorps is a national service organization that promotes voluntarism.
Eligible applicants must carry 12 or more units at Moorpark College, have at least a 2.0 GPA, commit to 450 hours of tutoring and training during the 2002-03 school year and participate in service activities.
Program participants will receive a $1,200 college tuition stipend and transferable college credit, among other incentives.
