Texas Tech Wins Eighth in a Row
LUBBOCK, Texas — Andre Emmett scored 27 points and Kasib Powell had 17 points and seven assists, and Texas Tech defeated Wyoming, 90-84, Tuesday.
The victory extended Texas Tech’s unbeaten streak to eight heading into Big 12 Conference play against Kansas State on Sunday.
Texas Tech (11-1) managed to hang on after nearly squandering an 18-point halftime lead.
Wyoming’s defense toughened and the Red Raiders’ shooting turned cold during a 17-4 Cowboy run early in the second half.
The Cowboys (9-4) pulled within four points in the final minute.
But Texas Tech made six of eight free throws in the final 30 seconds to hold off the Cowboys.
Wyoming’s run-and-gun offense heated up early in the second half, narrowing the gap to 62-49 six minutes into the half.
Will Chavis scored 16 points and Andy Ellis added 10 for Texas Tech.
Donta Richardson scored 20 points and Marcus Bailey had 17 points and 11 rebounds for the Cowboys.
Texas Tech’s biggest lead, 21 points, came in the first half.
The Red Raiders led, 52-34, at halftime.
