Angell to Receive Posthumous Honor from Writers Guild

“Frasier” co-creator David Angell, who died in the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, will be honored posthumously by the Writers Guild of America at its annual awards dinner Saturday.
Angell will be awarded the Valentine Davies Award--named for the writer of “Miracle on 34th Street”--which recognizes those who have “brought dignity and honor to the profession of writing.”
The presentation will be made and accepted by Angell’s former partners, Peter Casey and David Lee, with whom he created both “Frasier” and “Wings.”
Angell, 54, and his wife, Lynn, were among the casualties on American Airlines Flight 11 from Boston, which was hijacked and crashed into the World Trade Center.
A charitable foundation has since been established in their names.
In addition to “Frasier,” Angell wrote for “Cheers,” winning eight Emmy Awards for the two series. Saturday’s event will be highlighted by the WGA honors for the year’s best work in movies and television.
