2 Marines Killed, 2 Hurt in Helicopter Crash

Two Marines from Camp Pendleton were killed and two were injured in a helicopter crash Thursday night in the Chocolate Mountains of Imperial County during a routine training maneuver.
Dead are Capt. Theodore S. Treadwell, 29, of Phoenix, the pilot; and Staff Sgt. Roderick D. Nesmith, 30, of Cortez, Colo., the crew chief.
Injured were Lt. William Malsch, 29, of Allentown, Pa., a co-pilot; and Cpl. Andrew S. Leyda, 24, of Kent, Ohio, a crew chief. Both were listed in fair condition in a hospital in Phoenix.
The UH-1N Huey helicopter crashed about 11 p.m. at the southwestern end of the mountain range, often used for training.
