From Times Wire Reports
Gov. Donald Siegelman sued the federal government to block the opening of a chemical weapon incinerator in eastern Alabama, where the Army plans to begin destroying nerve agents later this year.
Siegelman said the government has reneged on an agreement to spend $40.5 million for gas masks and other safety precautions for people who live near the Anniston Army Depot, about 60 miles east of Birmingham.
Siegelman asked a court to block any burning at the $1-billion incinerator until the government provides the “maximum protection” required by law.
