Police are looking for leads in the slaying of an off-duty Marine who was shot over the weekend in an apparent case of mistaken identity.
Ronny Brock, a 19-year-old Marine stationed at Camp Pendleton, was standing on a sidewalk just outside his parents’ house at Breed Street and City View Avenue on Sunday when he was confronted by an assailant, said Det. Joe Preciado of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Hollenbeck Station.
After a short conversation, the assailant drew a gun and shot Brock several times in the upper body, Preciado said. Police say he may have been mistaken for someone else. Brock, who recently returned from a month’s service in Pakistan, was on leave for the weekend.
Anyone with information is asked to call Hollenbeck homicide Dets. Joe Preciado or Hugo Baeza at (323) 526-3114 or at (877) 529-3855.
