A Last Word on Steve Hirsch

I am deeply disturbed by the portrayal of Steve Hirsch (“The Actress, the Producer and Their Porn Revolution,” by Ralph Frammolino and P.J. Huffstutter, Jan. 6). You chose to paint him in a negative, self-centered light, which could not be further from the truth. I have been under contract with Vivid Video since 1990, and in 12 years I have never found him to be anything but honest, trustworthy and a true friend. I have seen him give thousands of dollars to girls who were not under contract with him. When one ex-Vivid girl’s husband left her and their newborn baby, Hirsch gave her nearly $40,000. Do you think he ever expected to see a dime returned? No. He did it because he cares. In 1991, during the middle of a big-budget Vivid production, I decided I wanted to quit. After the second day, I called Hirsch at home to tell him that I couldn’t finish the film. Did he threaten me with a lawsuit? No. He wished me luck and said he wanted me to be happy. Through the business I have made a very comfortable life for myself, and I never have to work a day again. Your writers got Hirsch 100% wrong.
