Flag Burning Causes Ruckus at College

Half a dozen police in riot gear were called to the Fullerton College campus this week when a 20-year-old student tried to burn an American flag on campus.
After Parham Khoshbakht set the flag on fire shortly after 10 a.m. Thursday, a crowd gathered and several students tried to take the flag away from him, said Fullerton Police Sgt. Steve Johnson.
He had written on his bare chest, “Liberty or death.”
Officers took Khoshbakht to the police station briefly for his own protection and to keep the situation from turning violent, Johnson said.
Khoshbakht later met with Richard Ramirez, dean of student affairs.
No charges were pressed against Khoshbakht, since he was exercising his right to freedom of speech. Ramirez said he told Khoshbakht that he should have applied for permission to hold a demonstration in the free-speech section of the quad.
