Charred Body ID’d as Guard’s
A charred body found inside a dumpster in Buena Park was identified Monday as that of a Los Angeles security guard who was kidnapped last week from Commerce, officials said.
Dental records were used to identify Song Chea, a 52-year-old Monterey Park resident, said Orange County Deputy Cullen Ellingburgh.
Chea’s body was discovered about 10:30 p.m. Saturday after firefighters extinguished a blaze in a dumpster behind a business complex in the 8400 block of Artesia Boulevard, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy Bill Spear.
Police said Chea was kidnapped about 4 a.m. Thursday when three men tried to steal trailers from Overnight Transportation Co., where Chea worked as an unarmed guard.
One of the men was allowed inside the business but fled after employees saw him trying to steal a trailer, police said. The two other men dragged Chea him into a waiting van.
Authorities haven’t released the cause of death.
