Musicals lead NAACP awards
Four big musicals won the most nominations for the local NAACP Theatre Awards, announced Monday. “The Full Monty” led the pack with 12, followed by “Aida” and “Guys and Dolls” with 11 each and “Into the Woods” with 10.
The awards, sponsored by the Beverly Hills/Hollywood branch of the NAACP, cover shows that opened between Jan. 1 and Aug. 31. In the local theater categories, which consist of smaller productions in the Los Angeles area, the most-nominated show was “Blues for an Alabama Sky,” with nine.
The awards will be announced Jan. 27 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.
