Pepperdine (3-3) vs. Richmond (3-2) at Palo Alto, 4:30, KPLS (830, delayed 7 p.m.) -- Pepperdine opens play in the four-team Stanford Invitational after losing to fifth-ranked Oregon, 105-90, Saturday night in Malibu. The Waves had the lead early in the second half before foul trouble, turnovers and a late Oregon surge did them in. The return of forward Glen McGowan from a knee injury gave the Waves a lift, but he played only 12 minutes before fouling out. Pepperdine’s poor post play has resulted in the team’s being outrebounded in five of six games. The Waves could have problems matching up with Eric Zwayer, Richmond’s 6-foot-9, 250-pound center. Forward Mike Skrocki leads the balanced Spiders with a 14-point average. Stanford plays Montana in the other first-round game.

Loyola Marymount (5-3) at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo (1-5), 7, KXLU-FM (88.9) -- Loyola remained unbeaten at home with a 76-68 victory over Long Beach State on Saturday, but the Lions are 1-3 on the road. They should be able to improve that record against one of the Big West Conference’s weaker teams. Sophomore point guard Charles Brown continued his strong play against Long Beach, getting career bests of 16 points, eight rebounds and eight assists.
