Let’s Get Our Kids Out of Portable Classrooms
Re “In Florida, Limit Class Size Now, Pay Later,” Nov. 27:
We read with interest the article about school crowding in Florida. We were especially impressed by the mention of portable classrooms. We drive by our local high school, Dana Hills, on the Stonehill side almost every day. We cannot believe the ugly portable classrooms.
Some of them are close to a busy intersection. With the district talking of spending $9 million on new district offices, perhaps priorities should be reexamined. Students are the most important part of any district and deserve an environment that will encourage them to be excited and enthusiastic about attending a real school, not a hodgepodge of portables. It really does look like a Third World campus or perhaps an abandoned Army camp.
