From “News Radio” to a cabaret act to his MTV show, Andy Dick has cut a caustic comedic crop circle in the media culture of the last decade. Now he crosses over into the world of pop records with the release of his debut album. “Andy Dick & the Bitches of the Century” features cover art by Marilyn Manson and such numbers as “Stalker Song,” which probably will be a highlight of his Key Club show.

In “Next!--Living the Lie,” nine young Hollywood hopefuls reveal how auditions shape their personal and professional lives. This original musical revue is presented by the Santa Monica Playhouse Summer Stock 2002 company, with a cast ranging in age from 11 to 16.

Grammy-nominated Latin Jazz trumpeter Bobby Rodriguez headlines a show that also features tenor saxophonist Ernie Watts, drummer-percussionist Alex Acuna, bassist Abe Laboriel and pianist Donald Vega. Rodriguez, whose new CD is titled “Trumpet Talk,” will perform two shows a night through Saturday.

Pianist and conductor Jeffrey Kahane and the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra return to Hollywood Bowl in a program offering dance suites by Bartok and Kodaly, and Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 22, plus a set of German dances. The venerable ensemble, of which Kahane is the fifth music director, begins its 35th season in fall 2002.

Drummer Jeff “Tain” Watts achieved jazz prominence with the Wynton Marsalis band. The well-traveled sideman has also played and recorded with Geri Allen, Ricky Ford, Robin Eubanks, Betty Carter, McCoy Tyner, Gary Thomas, Branford Marsalis and many others. He worked with the Tonight Show Band when Branford Marsalis was director in the early 1990s, and his latest CD, “Bar Talk,” was released earlier this year. Watts performs tonight with pianist David Budway, guitarist Paul Bollenback, bassist John Benitez and saxophonist Marcus Strickland.
