Home Video of Slain Girl to Be Shown in Court

Over the objections of defense attorneys, the judge in the David Westerfield trial ruled Monday that prosecutors can show an emotionally powerful home video of Westerfield’s victim, 7-year-old Danielle van Dam.
Superior Court Judge William Mudd also ruled that prosecutors can call people to testify about alleged abusive treatment by Westerfield.
Jurors last week convicted Westerfield of kidnapping and murdering the girl, and next will be asked to recommend whether he should be executed or sent to prison for life.
