Representatives of the Oxnard Harbor District and the Port of Hueneme’s 18 unionized government workers have agreed to sit down this week to resolve differences as they negotiate a new three-year contact.
Port officials have scheduled meetings with Service Employees International Union, Local 998 on Tuesday and Wednesday. Along with higher wages, the union wants an enhanced pension plan and a continuation of full health benefits for future retirees who have worked at least five years. “I am fully confident that we can wrap this up next week,” said Ellyn Dembowski, the local’s deputy director.
William J. Buenger, port executive director, said he was optimistic enough about making progress that he agreed to schedule consecutive meetings.
