2 Men Gunned Down in Gang-Related Killings

Two men in their early 20s were fatally shot Sunday afternoon near Garfield High School in what sheriff’s investigators believe were gang-related killings.
The victims were walking in the 400 block of Fraser Avenue when two suspects in an orange or faded red 1980s Ford Escort pulled up. The passenger got out, walked up to the victims and shot them.
One victim was shot in the back and fell to the sidewalk, according to Lt. Raymond Peavy of the sheriff’s homicide unit. He said the second victim tried to escape by attempting to scale the fence at Garfield High School, but the gunman shot him.
The gunman returned to the second victim and shot him again as he lay on the ground, Peavy said.
The victims’ identities were withheld pending notification of next of kin. Investigators are searching for two 18-to 20-year-old suspects with shaved heads.
