Gary L. Klott, 52, a tax columnist and founder of TaxPlanet.com, died Saturday in San Luis Obispo. The cause of death was not disclosed.
Klott was a former New York Times columnist whose writing appeared in hundreds of newspapers. He was the author of “The New York Times Complete Guide to the New Tax Law,” “The New York Times Complete Guide to Personal Investing” and “The Complete Financial Guide to the 1990s.”
He founded TaxPlanet.com in 1999. Rated one of the top 50 financial sites by Money magazine, it was filled with tables, forms, updates, tips and related articles.
Before working at the New York Times, Klott was a national business and economic affairs correspondent for United Press International in New York, where he also produced a nationally broadcast radio feature on taxes.
He also served as president of the Society of American Business Editors and Writers in 1994-95.
