Health Forces Official to Move Up His Retirement

Treasurer-Tax Collector Harold S. Pittman is stepping down early because of deteriorating health, officials said.
Pittman, 62, who announced last year that he would not seek reelection, was scheduled to leave in late December. But in a letter to the Ventura County Board of Supervisors, Pittman said his resignation would instead be effective Aug. 31.
Pittman’s top deputy, Larry Matheney, was elected to replace him in last spring’s primary.
