Irvine University Stays No. 1 in Boys’ Tennis
Aaron Yovan swept three sets, including a 6-3 decision over Cameron Ball at No. 1 singles, and Anson Hsu and Jeff Lawrence swept at No. 1 doubles to lead Irvine University, the top-ranked team in The Times’ poll, to a 12-6 victory over No. 2-ranked Corona del Mar in a Pacific Coast League match Tuesday at University.
Matt Chou and Michael Haier, playing No. 3 doubles, trailed Carsten Ball and Eric Frisbee, 5-2, but took the next five games to win, 7-5, and give University (17-2-1, 8-0) a 4-2 lead after one round of play. Cameron Ball won his other two singles sets for the Sea Kings (18-2, 6-2), whose only losses have come against University.
