Water Board Puts Off Vote on Silt Restrictions

The North Coast Regional Water Quality Control Board has rebuffed a call for stiff restrictions that could have halted Pacific Lumber timber harvests in several imperiled watersheds.
After a hearing that stretched over parts of two days and into the weekend, the board opted early Saturday to put off considering a call by environmentalists for stiff restrictions on silt that flows off timberlands and into several North Coast tributaries.
“The board has abdicated their duties,” said Ken Miller of the Humboldt Watershed Council.
