Venezuela’s new air force commander and three other generals were killed in a helicopter crash, officials said, adding to the blows suffered by a military already split by a failed coup this month.
Gen. Luis Alfonso Acevedo and Brig. Gens. Pedro Torres Fino, Rafael Quintana Bello and Julio Cesar Ochoa were killed Friday when their helicopter crashed, likely because of bad weather, the military said.
Acevedo, who took over as air force chief in post-coup shake-ups, was returning from the installation of a new navy commander in Mamo, 20 miles north of Caracas, the capital. Six others also were killed.
