A man who was drunk when the truck he was driving struck and killed a woman crossing a busy Ventura street was given a nine-year prison term Friday.
Scott Ryan Ramirez, 26, of Oxnard pleaded guilty last month to gross vehicular manslaughter while drunk and leaving the scene of an accident.
On the afternoon of Feb. 14, a pickup driven by Ramirez struck Linda Mary Brandon, 51, as she used a marked crosswalk on Ventura Avenue. After running her over, Ramirez drove off.
Earlier in the day Ramirez had been drinking at a bar in a Ventura shopping mall and was seen driving recklessly in the mall parking lot, according to police.
