From Times Wire Reports

A proposed graffiti-fighting ordinance would restrict the sale of everything from felt-tip markers to crayons for everyone under 18.

Youngsters would need parental permission to buy everything from gum labels to paint sticks to aerosol cans containing paint, dye or ink.

The law is designed to cut down on graffiti in the city, where tagging has doubled since 1997.

Since unveiling the proposal in July, city officials have been meeting with teenagers, business owners and neighborhood groups. The City Council is expected to vote on the ordinance next month.
