Plans for Vieques Protest Called Off

Protest groups on the Puerto Rican island of Vieques, who had been preparing for civil disobedience against Navy bombing training slated to start Sept. 24, said they were canceling their plans after the terrorist attacks.
The groups, which have been vociferously opposed to the Navy’s use of Vieques for war games, called a moratorium on civil disobedience for this latest round of training but said they would hold acts of peaceful protest should the Navy follow through with its plans to conduct 25 days of training.
Vieques Vice Mayor Henry Gonzalez told reporters it was not the moment for civil disobedience.
