Plans Submitted for New Ski Resort at Lake Tahoe

A Redding-based timber company has announced plans to build the first new ski resort in the Lake Tahoe area since 1972.
Sierra Pacific Industries wants to build a residential area and adjoining ski resort on some of 8,300 acres it owns in the Martis Valley area near Truckee.
The logging company wants to build the resort in phases, starting with a beginner or intermediate lift and then leading to an advanced-terrain lift connected to Martis Peak, according to a proposal submitted to the Placer County Planning Department.
The project would run contrary to a new master plan’s focus on preserving areas still free of homes, a county planning official said.
