Kindergarten Sign-Up Materials Are Available
Parents in the Huntington Beach City School District can pick up registration materials for the district’s Extended-Kindergarten Program at their neighborhood elementary schools.
The program is an introduction to kindergarten for children who were too young to attend the start of regular kindergarten classes in September, Supt. Gary Rutherford said.
Under state law, children who turn 5 on or before Dec. 2 of the school year may enroll in kindergarten that calendar year. That means those whose birthdays fall after that date must wait until the following fall to register.
The 13-year-old program at the Huntington Beach school district allows those students to register earlier to gain valuable experience before beginning a regular full year of kindergarten.
“It gives the young ones an extra semester to get ready for school,†Rutherford said.
Applications will be accepted until Nov. 14, and classes will begin Jan. 28. Space is limited to 60 students. For more information, call (714) 964-8888, Ext. 511.
