Man Dies After Fight With Arresting Deputies
A 47-year-old man, resisting arrest, lost consciousness and later died after fighting with deputies at his estranged wife’s Lake Los Angeles home Friday night, according to the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department.
The incident began when deputies were dispatched to the 39600 block of 174th Street on a domestic disturbance call by Patricia Welch, the wife of Michael Burkley. He was violating a restraining order, sheriff’s Lt. Gordon Carn said.
When two deputies tried to arrest him, Burkley became “verbally abusive,†then fought with them, authorities said. During the struggle, Burkley fell to the ground, lost consciousness and stopped breathing. He was airlifted to a hospital, where he died.
