4 Die in Stampede of Refugees for Food
From Times Wire Reports
Desperate Afghans who fled drought and a harsh winter in the mountains stampeded as food was being handed out at a refugee camp in the western part of the country, killing four people.
Among the dead was a girl of about 4, who was buried with the others near the camp in a cemetery whose 200 graves, none more than a few months old, testify to the bleak conditions.
The camp at Maslakh, northwest of Herat, is home to about 100,000 displaced people.
