More Razor Blades Found on Playgrounds
More razor blades were found on local playgrounds Wednesday, this time at a city park and at a preschool here.
The latest incidents brought to eight the number of such discoveries in Newport Beach and Costa Mesa since late March, police said.
Three blades were found on a playground slide at Las Arenas Park in the 1500 block of West Balboa Boulevard about 9 a.m. Wednesday, and three more were found at 6 a.m. Tuesday by a preschool employee in a sandbox at the Newport Harbor Lutheran Church in the 700 block of Dover Drive, said Newport Beach Police Lt. Doug Fletcher.
No one has been injured by the single-edge blades, which police said have not yielded any fingerprints.
The latest incidents were similar to those at Bolsa Park and Marina Park in Newport Beach, and in Costa Mesa at Lions Park, Heller Park and Pinkley Park, where razor blades have been found in swings, slides and sandboxes.
At Buckingham Park in Newport Beach, shards of glass were found in the sandbox and on a slide May 2.
The discoveries have prompted daily inspections by city employees, and residents have offered rewards of at least $2,000 for information leading police to the perpetrators. Parkgoers are urged to inspect all playground equipment before allowing children to use them.
