Veronica Johns-Richardson, a 5-foot-10 senior guard from Troy High, and Giuliana Mendiola, a freshman at Washington and graduate of El Toro High, have been invited to the 2001 USA women’s junior national team trials June 15-18 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. Johns-Richardson als oparticipated in last year’s trials.
Thirty players who are 19 or younger, including six who helped the U.S. earn its 2001 Junior World Championships berth, were invited. Finalists begin training for the Junior World Championships, July 14-22 in the Czech Republic.

Orange boys’ basketball Coach Randy Castillo has resigned after two seasons to coach at Norwalk Glenn High, Panther Athletic Director Ed Howard said. Castillo’s record at Orange was 5-41.
Ryan Bettencourt has resigned as girls’ basketball coach at Northwood, according to Rick Curtis, the school’s athletic director.
