Pacific Chorale Announces 2001-02 Season

The Pacific Chorale will open its 2001-02 season with a performance of Verdi’s Requiem on Oct. 28 at the Orange County Performing Arts Center in Costa Mesa.

Soloists will include soprano Camellia Johnson, mezzo-soprano Robynne Redmon, tenor Philip Webb and bass Stephen Bryant. Music director John Alexander will conduct the Chorale and the Pacific Symphony in this 7 p.m. performance.

The season will continue:

* Dec. 16: “ ‘Tis the Season”: the Chorale’s annual holiday program, with the Pacific Symphony and the Pacific Chorale Children’s Chorus.

* April 28: “Hope, Faith, Life, Love”: Herbert Howell’s Requiem; Copland’s “Old American Songs”; three works by Chorale composer-in-residence Eric Whitacre.

* June 2: “Brahms, Mahler and Whitacre”: Mahler’s “Songs of a Wayfarer”; Brahms’ “Alto Rhapsody” and “Nanie”; Whitacre’s “Screen Kiss.” Michelle DeYoung will be the mezzo-soprano soloist. Whitacre’s work is the second commissioned by the Chorale.

All concerts will be at 7 p.m. at the Orange County Performing Arts Center, 600 Town Center Drive, Costa Mesa.

Season tickets: $44 to $184 (limited box seating, $360). Single tickets, at prices to be announced, will go on sale Sept. 10.

A nonsubscription concert by the John Alexander Singers will be given March 17 at 7 p.m. at Concordia University, 1530 Concordia West, in Irvine. The program will include works by Henk Badings, Frank Ferko, Hildegard von Bingen and Eric Whitacre. Tickets: $25 for general admission; $20 for season subscribers.
