Sophomore Allyson Felix of L.A. Baptist established a divisional record in the girls’ 100 with a career best of 11.68 at preliminaries at Citrus College.
Her time equaled the fastest in the state this year, by senior Monique Henderson of San Diego Morse.
“I knew the record was there to be broken, but I didn’t know if I would do it this week or next week,” Felix said. “So it feels good to get it out of the way. Usually my start is the weakest part of my race. Today, I felt strong throughout.”
Felix, the defending division champion in the 100 and 200, led qualifying in the 200 at 24.23.
She ran legs on the Knights’ 400 relay team, which clocked 48.47, and the 1,600 relay team, which ran 4:04.56. Each team led qualifiers.
L.A. Baptist’s Erica Fleming qualified fourth in the 100 high hurdles in 16.15 and third in the 300 low hurdles in 46.57.
Teammate Brittany Ricketts was second in the triple jump (35-10 1/2) and seventh in the long jump (15-10 1/2).
Oakwood’s Treani Swain had the second-fastest time in the girls’ 800 in 2:18.76.
Mark Nevers of Oak Park led qualifying in the boys’ 1,600 (4:22.37) and 3,200 (9:33.60).
Lawrence Cotton of Kilpatrick ran the fastest time in the 100, 11.02. He led qualifying in the 200 in 22.23 and anchored Kilpatrick’s 400 relay team, which had the fastest time in 43.14.
