School Benefits That Tests Can’t Measure
Thank you for printing a positive article about an educator (“Unreachable, Now Reaching--Peer Diaries Grab Students,†May 1).
Jason Ross is but one example of the amazing people in every school. Is Jason Ross a good teacher? Are his students motivated to learn? Absolutely.
Knowing that, how do you think his students’ SAT 9 scores will look? Should his students be penalized (with low scores) for learning? Should he be penalized (with no monetary bonus) for thinking? Does this singular assessment really tell us all we need to know?
Let’s teach our children to think and to care. And let’s find other assessments to complement (not supplement) the SAT 9. Stand with our teachers. They need you.
