* Federal mediators called negotiators for American Airlines and its flight attendants union back to the bargaining table in an effort to avert the next major strike threat in the airline industry. Mediators scheduled two days of meetings at the headquarters of the National Mediation Board in the hopes of jump-starting talks that had been pushed to the sidelines while they dealt with more immediate labor problems at Northwest and Delta airlines.
