In nonleague boys’ swimming:
No. 9 Fountain Valley 105, No. 10 El Toro 58--Brandon Dotts won the 200 freestyle (1:49.21) and the 200 individual medley (2:00.98) and swam on the winning 200 freestyle relay (1:33.54) team for the Barons (4-0).
In nonleague girls’ swimming:
No. 1 Irvine 116, No. 6 Foothill 51--Irvine won every event as Stephanie Hsiao, Courtney Cashion, Flora Kong, Ashley Gore and Sarah Hamilton recorded Southern Section Division I qualifying times in their events. Kong, a transfer student from Hong Kong, posted the county’s fastest time in the 100 butterfly, 57.58 seconds. Cashion, a freshman, clocked the fastest county times in the 50 (24.38) and 100 (52.96) freestyles.
Hsiao recorded qualifying times in the 200 IM (2:12.01) and 200 freestyle (1:56.80), Gore in the 100 backstroke (1:02.38) and Hamilton in the 100 breaststroke (1:08.53).
The Vaqueros also recorded division I qualifying times in the 200 medley and the 200 and 400 freestyle relays.
In the Orange County boys’ volleyball championships:
Marina wins two--Unranked Marina beat two ranked opponents on the first day of pool play at Edison High.
In its first match, Marina (6-1) got 20 kills, 10 digs and seven blocks from Steffin Rangel in a 15-12, 15-13 victory over second-ranked Fountain Valley (7-2), which got 12 kills from Long Beach State-bound Nate Hagstrom.
The Vikings later knocked off eighth-ranked Corona del Mar, 15-11, 15-4, as Rangel had 18 kills, Drew Wilson 11 and setter Beau Peters dished out 42 assists.
