Santa Ana Hangs On to Beat Golden West in Baseball, 4-3

Dale Thayer struck out four of the seven batters he faced to pick up the save as host Santa Ana (14-3, 4-1) defeated Golden West, 4-3, in Orange Empire Conference baseball Thursday at Santa Ana College.

Starter Ivan Ramirez pitched out of a bases-loaded jam in the seventh inning, when Golden West (7-11, 0-5) closed to within a run.

In other Orange Empire Conference games:

Saddleback 9, Orange Coast 4--Erik Dobek, John Stephens and Scott Cheo each collected three hits for visiting Saddleback (14-4, 3-2). Isaac Harbottle pitched two scoreless innings of relief to get the victory.

Riverside 0, Fullerton 0 (12, darkness)--The game will be resumed on April 17 at Fullerton.

In Orange Empire Conference men’s tennis:

Irvine Valley 8, Orange Coast 1--Ian Flores, John Goss, Chris Tibbetts, and Hadley Ogle posted straight-sets victories in singles for visiting Irvine Valley, which won two singles matches and a doubles match by default.
