* Last year: Joe Inman won for the third consecutive year, beating Larry Nelson by three strokes at Wilshire Country Club. The tournament was played in late October.
* Last week: Spain’s Jose Maria Canizares birdied the ninth hole of a playoff with Gil Morgan to win the Toshiba Senior Classic in Newport Beach. Canizares won for the first time on the tour.
* Notes: Bob Murphy and Jay Sigel also played a nine-hole playoff in the 1997 Newport Beach tournament, with Murphy winning with a 70-foot putt. In the longest sudden-death playoff in tour history, David Graham beat Dave Stockton on the 10th extra hole in the 1998 Royal Caribbean Classic. . . . The Siebel Classic is next week in San Jose on the Jack Nicklaus-designed Coyote Creek course.

* TV: USA (today-Friday, 4-6, delayed; live at 1 p.m. on some satellite systems) and NBC (Saturday-Sunday, noon-3 p.m.).
* Last year: Dudley Hart won his second tour title, closing with four consecutive birdies for a one-stroke victory over Kevin Wentworth and J.P. Hayes.
* Last week: Joe Durant won for the second consecutive start, beating Canada’s Mike Weir by two strokes in the Genuity Championship at Doral. Durant finished with a seven-under 65 in windy conditions for an 18-under 270 total. He won the Bob Hope Classic on Feb. 18 with a tour-record 36-under 324 total.
* Notes: Tiger Woods is taking the week off after his final-hole collapse in the Dubai Desert Classic. He closed with a double bogey to finish two strokes behind Denmark’s Thomas Bjorn. . . . Young Australian stars Aaron Baddeley and Adam Scott are in the field along with Phil Mickelson, Mark Calcavecchia, Tom Lehman and John Daly. Baddeley, 19, won twice in Australia and led the ANZ Tour money list. Scott, 20, won the Alfred Dunhill in South Africa. . . . The Bay Hill Invitational is next week in Orlando, followed by the Players Championship in Ponte Vedra Beach.

* Last year: Swedish star Annika Sorenstam qualified for the LPGA Hall of Fame, beating Pat Hurst with a birdie on the second playoff hole. They had tournament-record 19-under 269 totals.
* Last event: Scotland’s Catriona Matthew won the Hawaiian Ladies Open on Feb. 17 for her first LPGA Tour title. She led wire-to-wire for a three-stroke victory over Sorenstam.
* Notes: Australian star Karrie Webb is skipping the tournament to defend her Women’s Australian Open title. She won her fourth consecutive ANZ Masters title Sunday, beating Rachel Teske by eight strokes. . . . Sorenstam won the 1991 NCAA title for Arizona. . . . The Standard Register Ping is next week in Phoenix, followed by the Nabisco Championship in Rancho Mirage.
