A man was hit by an Amtrak Pacific Surfliner train Wednesday night, Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey said.
His body was found at 8:18 p.m. on the Metrolink train tracks 150 yards northeast of White Oak Avenue and Roscoe Boulevard, Humphrey said.
The man appeared to be in his 30s or 40s and had massive head trauma. He was found dead at the scene.
The train did not derail and no one on board was injured. Officials did not know whether there were any passengers aboard.
Humphrey said it appeared the man was trespassing and was hit by the train, but police are also looking into the possibility that his body was dumped at the scene before impact or that the incident was a suicide.
The Amtrak Pacific Surfliner is a passenger train that runs along the coast between San Diego and San Luis Obispo.
