L.A. Unified Reaches Deal With Officials on Pay Raises

The Los Angeles Unified School District and the union representing 2,200 administrators have reached a tentative contract settlement providing pay and benefits increases totaling about 14%.

If approved, the three-year contract would cost the district $18 million. The funds have already been allocated in the budget and would require no cuts in instructional programs, Supt. Roy Romer said.

The administrators’ raise is about 1% less than the raise the district has agreed to pay its teachers.

The package, retroactive to July 1, includes average salary increases of 10.5% and a 1.8% increase in the cost of the current benefits. In addition, a one-time 2% bonus paid last year will be added to the salary schedule.

The average elementary school principal’s salary would range from $83,458 to $92,221. High school principals would average from $94,148 to $103,563.

If ratified by members of Associated Administrators of Los Angeles--which represents principals, assistant principals and other administrators--the agreement will be considered by the Board of Education April 10.
