Late Apologies

* Re “A Diplomatic Bow Helps Ease Japanese Ire,†March 2:

Regardless of how much emphasis Japanese place on apologies, I believe they must learn from Americans. The captain’s and U.S. Navy’s apologies may have arrived late by a couple of weeks by Japanese standards. But Japan’s apologies to the victims of the grand atrocities committed during WWII, e.g. sex slaves, human guinea pigs, massacre, forced labor, etc., are yet to come after nearly 50 years. Just like the submarine case, a mere regret won’t do. Forgiveness is akin, not opposite, to apology. Come on, Japan, it’s your turn.
