Stachowski, Booth Key South Water Polo Win

Amber Stachowski and Jenna Booth each scored two goals to help the South defeat the North, 7-4, in the Orange County girls’ water polo all-star game Sunday at El Toro High.

Stachowski is a U.S. junior national team player from Capistrano Valley High and Booth is from Newport Harbor. Irvine’s Nicole Lorrimer and Laguna Beach’s Teresa Codini and Laura Case each scored once for the South. Santa Margarita goalie Kristen Carfioli had six saves for the South.

Drue Wawrzynski, a youth national team member from Los Alamitos, had two goals for the North. Marina’s Cara Chlebicki, a junior national team member, and Villa Park’s Cindy Henn each scored one goal for the North.

BASKETBALL

UC Irvine junior guard Jerry Green was selected to the District 15 all-star second team by the National Assn. of Basketball Coaches.

First-team selections in the district were Jason Kapono and Earl Watson of UCLA, Sam Clancy of USC, Brandon Armstrong of Pepperdine and Gilbert Arenas of Arizona.

SOCCER

Eddie Soto has been hired as an assistant coach for the Cal State Fullerton men’s soccer team.

Soto, who played for the Titans in 1992-94 and earned second-team All-American honors in ‘92, replaces Ali Khosroshahin, who was promoted to interim head coach for the Titan women’s team. Soto played at Cerritos High and Chapman before joining the Titans.

* Rebekah Rogers, a defender on the Cypress women’s soccer team, signed a letter of intent with Cal State Bakersfield. Rogers, a graduate of Cypress High, was an all-conference selection last season.
