Concordia Uses Big Fifth Inning to Defeat Vanguard
Concordia scored four unearned runs in the fifth inning and defeated host Vanguard, 4-2, Thursday in a Golden State Athletic Conference baseball game.
With two outs and no one on in the top of the fifth, Concordia’s Chris Carey reached on an error. The Eagles (6-5-1, 2-1) then banged out four hits, including a two-run single by Jeff Curcio and a two-run double by Rick Stockton, to take a 4-0 lead.
Stockton went four for four and also pitched 5 2/3 innings to improve to 1-1.
Vanguard scored runs in the sixth and seventh innings.
Michael Bair went three for three with an RBI for the Lions (10-5, 2-2).
In a nonconference game:
Chapman 5, San Francisco State 4--Andrew Tisdale pitched a 10-hitter for visiting Chapman, striking out seven and walking one. Alex Taylor went two for five with an RBI and scored a run.
