Top Players Advance in Junior Tennis Event
Top-seeded Doug Stewart of Malibu and second-seeded Matthew Loucks of Irvine advanced Friday to the semifinals of the boys’ 18 division in the Southern California Junior Section Championships at Fountain Valley.
Stewart defeated Aaron Yovan of Irvine, 7-6 (4), 6-1, and will play No. 5-seeded Rylan Rizza of Rancho Palos Verdes, who defeated Patrick Buchanan of Fullerton, 6-1, 7-6 (5).
Loucks defeated Ari Rosenthal of Pacific Palisades, 6-2, 6-0, to advance to play qualifier Travis Rettenmaier of Fountain Valley, who defeated fourth-seeded Malcolm Scatliffe of San Bernardino, 7-6 (5), 7-5.
Semifinals are scheduled for 12:30 p.m. today at Los Caballeros Racquet and Sports Club.
Jack Li of Irvine, Jamil Al-Agba of Camarillo and Jeffrey Das of Fullerton advanced in boys’ 16s.
Kaes Van’t Hof of Newport Beach upset top-seeded Carsten Ball, also of Newport Beach, 6-1, 6-4, in the boys’ 14 division.
