Gap Inc. will pull 300 jobs out of Ventura and consolidate its distribution services at a plant in Fresno, a company spokeswoman said Friday.

Beginning in late July, the company will begin closing its Ventura facility, which has been operating out of a distribution center on Colt Street for 23 years, said spokeswoman Stacy MacLean.

The 17-million-square-foot Fresno plant, which opened in March 1999, employs about 500 workers.

MacLean said the company decided earlier this year that it would make more sense for the company to shut down Ventura’s 225,000-square-foot operation and consolidate distribution services.

The move is expected to cut costs, MacLean said, but no estimates on how much money the company will save were available Friday.

Employees in Ventura are being offered relocation packages to help with moving expenses to Fresno.
