9 Indicted in FBI Data Case
NEW YORK — A New York attorney and a Las Vegas private investigator were among nine people indicted Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Brooklyn for allegedly buying classified documents provided by suspected FBI mole James Hill.
Hill, 51, a former security analyst for the FBI’s Las Vegas office, was arrested last week and charged with selling hundreds of confidential federal documents.
Attorney Herbert Jacobi was charged in court papers with buying documents relating to the case of one of his clients, Robert Potter, who federal authorities said is charged with securities fraud.
In April, according to court papers, Potter introduced Jacobi to Michael Levin, a Las Vegas private investigator who was providing Potter with classified FBI documents about his case. Jacobi allegedly bought more documents about the Potter case from Levin, offering to pay up to $5,000 for the information.
Levin pleaded guilty Monday to conspiring to steal FBI documents.
Also charged with buying documents from Levin are Robert Santosus, Robert Monaco and William and Sandra Marino, all of New York and Mary Ellen Weeks and Maria Emeterio of Nevada.
